The Perspective to Launch INcite Magazine on May 1

On Thursday, May 1, 2008, Perspective Productions will be hosting a release party for its first-ever student-run magazine, INcite. The magazine was produced by students of the Perspective staff. The party will go from 5-7 p.m. and will be held at the Perspective Productions office, located at 73 Humboldt. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and guests will be registered to win an iPod Shuffle. All are welcome.

Prelude Release Party and Student Art Show on April 25

The Prelude Release Party will take place on Friday, April 25 from 4-7 p.m. in the President’s Dining Room in conjunction with the Student Art Show. The Prelude 2008 will be distributed to all who attend and those who were published this year will get to read their work.

This year’s edition uses an entirely new design format, which is completely different from the small, compact books of the past. Readers will automatically notice the glossy magazine-sized pages that highlight students’ work.

The Prelude is run by Advisor Dr. Terri K. Borchers, Editor-in-Chief Lori Markham, Visual Design Editor Mike Thomas, and Managing Editor Antasia Johnson.

Nunsense! production scheduled for April 24-25

The Medaille College Music and Drama Club will present Nunsense, a musical comedy by Dan Goggin, on Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m., Friday, April 25 at 8 p.m., and two shows on Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Main Campus.
Tickets are $2 for students and children, $5 for seniors, and $10 for adults.

Awards given at Accelerated Learning Program Reunion in Rochester

Two alumni and one faculty member received awards at the Accelerated Learning Program Reunion in Rochester on Friday, April 11. Over 90 alumni, guests, faculty and staff turned out for the event, which was held at Mario’s via Abruzzi in Rochester.

Ron Buckman ‘06 MBA received a Community Service Award for his outstanding service to the community. In addition to serving as chair of the Rochester Alumni Board, Buckman is a Secretary & Executive Board Member for the Hickok Center for Brain Injury, an active member of the St. John the Evangelist Church, and gives of his time and talent to Our Lady of Mercy High School and the Catholic Youth Organization within the Rochester Diocese.

Thomas Burns ‘06 MBA received a Distinguished Career Award in recognition of his professional achievements. Following a career in the Marine Corps, Burns moved on to progressively more high-profile positions with Frontier Cellular and Verizon Wireless. He currently works in Verizon Wireless’ Internal Audit Department, with responsibility for all departmental major projects, financial analysis, and peer development initiatives.

Andrew Wyner received a Faculty Award for displaying outstanding accomplishments in teaching. As an adjunct faculty member in the Accelerated Learning Program, Wyner came to Medaille with 28 years of experience in the corporate world after having retired from Kodak in 2002.

Career Fair planned for all majors on April 16

A career fair targeted towards all Medaille majors is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16 in the Kevin I. Sullivan Campus Center Gym. Over 20 businesses, governmental agencies and community organizations will be on hand to recruit for several dozen positions.

In advance of the event, students can contact the Career Planning and Placement Office at (716) 880-2145 or stop in their office on the second floor of the Campus Center to review your resume or practice interviewing techniques.

Medaille College Inaugurates Sixth President

On Saturday, April 5, Medaille College inaugurated Dr. Richard T. Jurasek as its sixth president in an hour-long ceremony in the Kevin I. Sullivan Campus Center on Medaille’s Main Campus.

Three members of the Medaille Music and Drama Club, Daniel Brawn, Tara Lacell and Melissa Bellanca, performed O Canada and The Star Spangled Banner, and William Collins, Chair of the Board of Trustees, gave a welcome message to the audience.

Greetings to the President followed, as Robert Nesslin, Assistant Professor, Amanda Rebelo ‘08, Student Government Association President, and John Barry ‘95, Alumni Board President, represented the faculty, students and alumni, respectively. William Collins, of the board of trustees, continued with his greeting, followed by Sister Denise Roche, GNSH, Ph.D., of D’Youville College and Chris Collins, Erie County Executive.

Following the Investiture of the President by William Collins, Dr. Jurasek delivered his inaugural address, which outlined four themes: gratitute, pride, humility and ambition.

Adult and graduate student work to “Build a better Buffalo” featured at Amherst inaugural reception

On Thursday, April 3, graduate students in the education, business and organizational leadership programs gave presentations at the Amherst campus on “Building a Better Buffalo, Medaille’s Role in a Civic and Sustainable Future.”

  • Get Dressed, Downtown: Developing a Downtown Community
  • Leadership and the Four Foundations of a Sustainable Society

The presentations helped conclude a week of campus events leading up to the Inauguration of Dr. Richard T. Jurasek, sixth president of Medaille, on Saturday, April 5.

Learning communities present “Building a better Buffalo” at Alumni Inauguration reception

On Tuesday, April 1, first-year students from Medaille’s learning communities made presentations on the theme “Building a better Buffalo, Medaille’s Role in a Civic and Sustainable Future” at the first of three receptions leading up to the Inauguration of Dr. Richard T. Jurasek, sixth president of Medaille, on Saturday, April 5.

The students presented overviews and results of their community outreach projects from the spring semester on the following topics:

BuffaLOVE: designed and implemented a Persuasive Action directly related to the city of Buffalo (informational boards, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, letters to the editor, op-ed pieces, and becoming involved in community service.)
Buffalo Urban Blight: Causes, Effects, and Solutions: examined the causes, effects and solutions of urban blight in Buffalo.
Buffalo Rewind: Using the Past to Envision the Future: researched and documented the architecture, education, sports and business history of Buffalo.
What Are We Burning to Change About the World?: created visual representations of social issues.
Reading to Rover Literacy Program: designed a reading to dogs program to offer to local schools.
“Let’s Talk Trash” Recycling Program: created a campus-wide recycling effort.
