The women’s basketball team looks to continue its 11 game winning streak with Wednesday’s 6 p.m. home game against Penn State-Behrend in the Sullivan Campus Center.
For the week of January 8 (week 6 of the season), the Lady Mavs are ranked 18th in the ESPN/USA Today Division III Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, their best ranking ever.
In two huge conference wins Amanda Baker (Sr. – Lyons, NY/Women’s Basketball) scored 41 points and pulled down 20 boards for the Lady Mavs. Their winning streak stands at 11 games and they remained a perfect 5-0 in AMCC play. For her efforts she was also named the AMCC Player of the Week.
In a tough week for the Mavs, Ryan Murdie (So. – Kenmore, NY/Men’s Volleyball) was terrific as he registered 24 kills while only making 2 errors for a .537 kill %. He also came up with a team high 10 blocks on the defensive side.
Marisa Clark (Sr. – Hilton, NY/Women’s Basketball) was named the MVP of the Florida Sunshine Shootout as the Lady Mavs had a 2-0 week. In two games she scored 29 points, pulled down 9 boards, dished out 8 assists, and came up with 6 steals. The Lady Mavs have won nine straight games and are 9-1 on the season.
In their only game of the week, a tough loss at NYU, Bill Gersitz (Jr. – Buffalo, NY/Men’s Basketball) led the Mavs with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Bill moved into 8th place on the all time scoring list as he now has 631 points in his career. The Mavs are 6-4 on the season.
In their only game of the week, a hard-fought 62-60 loss at Fredonia State, James McNeil (Sr. – Erie, PA/Men’s Basketball) tallied 27 points and grabbed 4 boards to lead the Mavs. James is closing in on the school’s all-time scoring mark; he currently has 1,213 points and is 67 away from owning that mark.
In a 1-1 week for Medaille, Joe Mogavero (Fr. - Buffalo, NY/Men’s Basketball) gave some solid minutes off the bench as he was a perfect (6 of 6) from the floor for 13 points. In a tough AMCC loss at Frostburg State, Joe shot 5 of 5 from the floor, finishing with 10 points.
In their only game of the week, a 60-49 win over conference foe Frostburg State, Sara Bukas (Sr. - Hamburg, NY/Women’s Basketball) came up big on the defensive end of the floor as she blocked 7 Bobcat shots. She also chipped in with 11 points. The Lady Mavs are atop the conference standings at 5-1 overall and 3-0 in AMCC play.
