Michele Bauman, a graduate student in the mental health counseling program at Medaille College, was honored with a Provider Recovery Award on Thursday, November 15 at the fourth annual Provider Recovery Award Dinner at Chefâs Restaurant.
This event honored providers from the Buffalo Psychiatric Center and community agencies. Nominations were accepted from recipients, who were encouraged to nominate staff members best demonstrating a commitment to the recovery process. The nominees see beyond âpatienthoodâ to âpersonhoodâ and helps guide recipients toward a more independent and improved quality of life.
For the past 24 years, Bauman has worked in direct care at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center. âI have learned so much (from the Medaille program) and will definitely be a better clinician. If it had not been for the working-friendly weekend program, I would have never been able to realize my life dream,â said Bauman.
Dr. Deborah A. Legge, assistant professor of social sciences and clinical coordinator of the mental health counseling program, offered, “Michele Bauman has worked in the mental health field for many years, yet she took her time and energy to pursue a personal and professional goal of becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. The Mental Health Counseling Programâs weekend format provides opportunities for advancement that are not possible in more traditional programs. Michele is a role model for those who are already working in the field, but who want to find a way to further their studies and expertise despite their already hectic schedules.â
Bauman is an occupational therapist and site supervisor at North Tonawanda Recovery Plus, with an anticipated degree date of September 2008.
