Awards given at Accelerated Learning Program Reunion in Rochester

Two alumni and one faculty member received awards at the Accelerated Learning Program Reunion in Rochester on Friday, April 11. Over 90 alumni, guests, faculty and staff turned out for the event, which was held at Mario’s via Abruzzi in Rochester.

Ron Buckman ‘06 MBA received a Community Service Award for his outstanding service to the community. In addition to serving as chair of the Rochester Alumni Board, Buckman is a Secretary & Executive Board Member for the Hickok Center for Brain Injury, an active member of the St. John the Evangelist Church, and gives of his time and talent to Our Lady of Mercy High School and the Catholic Youth Organization within the Rochester Diocese.

Thomas Burns ‘06 MBA received a Distinguished Career Award in recognition of his professional achievements. Following a career in the Marine Corps, Burns moved on to progressively more high-profile positions with Frontier Cellular and Verizon Wireless. He currently works in Verizon Wireless’ Internal Audit Department, with responsibility for all departmental major projects, financial analysis, and peer development initiatives.

Andrew Wyner received a Faculty Award for displaying outstanding accomplishments in teaching. As an adjunct faculty member in the Accelerated Learning Program, Wyner came to Medaille with 28 years of experience in the corporate world after having retired from Kodak in 2002.

Adult and graduate student work to “Build a better Buffalo” featured at Amherst inaugural reception

On Thursday, April 3, graduate students in the education, business and organizational leadership programs gave presentations at the Amherst campus on “Building a Better Buffalo, Medaille’s Role in a Civic and Sustainable Future.”

  • The Role of Education in a Civic and Sustainable Future
  • Get Dressed, Downtown: Developing a Downtown Community
  • Leadership and the Four Foundations of a Sustainable Society

The presentations helped conclude a week of campus events leading up to the Inauguration of Dr. Richard T. Jurasek, sixth president of Medaille, on Saturday, April 5.

Accelerated Learning Program Dean’s List recipients announced

Medaille College is pleased to announce the following 110 students who have earned Dean’s List status. These students were enrolled in the Accelerated Learning Program with a cohort session ending in December 2007.

Students who take a minimum of 12 credit hours and who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for all credit hours carried during that semester are placed on the Dean’s List.

MBA program featured in two BuffaloRising.com articles

Buffalorising.com featured Medaille’s MBA degree, part of the Accelerated Learning Program, in two articles. The first, Medaille College Plans for the Real World, documents a visit to an Amherst campus MBA class by Rocco Termini, and gives an example of a market study created by students in the program that helped bring a women’s retail store, the Jenny Shop, downtown.

The second, Four Picks for Medaille MBA Market Study, suggests four companies that Medaille MBA students could use for future research projects: Stereo Advantage, Smart Cars, Ted’s Hot Dogs, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Craig HoveyDr. Craig Hovey, clinical associate professor in the Accelerated Learning Program, co-authored The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Global Economics (Penguin, February 2008). The book gives a concise and accessible overview of how global economics impacts daily life, from tariffs and terrorism to OPEC and outsourcing.

Medaille College Ranks 5th For Enrollment Among Western New York MBA Programs

According to Business First of Buffalo, Medaille College ranks fifth among Western New York Master of Business Administration degree programs by total enrollment with 207 students.

Medaille College offers the master of business administration degree through its Accelerated Learning Program through campuses in Amherst and Rochester. Designed for working adults, the Program also includes associate and bachelor’s degrees in business and a master of arts in organizational leadership.
