Lavatelli named "Artist of the Month" at RFpaints.com

Mark Lavatelli, professor of humanities, is currently exhibiting encaustic paintings and monotypes at 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning, NY, in a two-person exhibition entitled Surface/ Substance, with ceramic artist Chris Longwell.  From July 9 to August 21, 2010. The Center is located at 171 Cedar St. in Corning.

Lavatelli is “Artist of the Month” for August on the R & F Handmade Paints website.  The site includes images of recent encaustic paintings and monotypes and an online interview.  R & F Paints, located in Kingston, NY, is one of the chief manufacturers of encaustic paint and promotes encaustic art through workshops, exhibitions, and encaustic materials and tools.

And, a one-person exhibition of Lavatelli’s encaustic paintings and works on paper will take place from September 3 to 26, 2010 at Indigo Art Gallery in Buffalo.  As suggested by the show’s title, Arboretum, the subjects are trees, presented in a variety of approaches including straightforward realism, linear abstraction, as well as trees juxtaposed with geometric shapes and words.  It will be open for the “First Fridays” on September 3 (6 to 9 p.m.), with the artist reception taking place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 10. Lavatelli will present an informal talk at the gallery at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 18.  Indigo Gallery is located at 74 Allen Street, Buffalo.
