McCarthy Park Dedication Brings out Public Officials, Supporters, Athletics Fans

Buffalo public officials at McCarthy Park with MedailleMedaille College held a dedication ceremony for the McCarthy Park athletic fields in Buffalo’s University District on Saturday, April 25, followed by one of the last Mavericks baseball games of the 2009 season.

Several of Medaille’s legislative supporters, including Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, New York State Senator William Stachowski, New York State Senator Antoine Thompson, University District Common Council Member Bonnie Russell, Delaware District Common Council Member Michael Locurto, and former Buffalo Mayor Anthony Masiello, were in attendance, and they joined together to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the baseball game.

Last fall, Medaille announced a public-private partnership with the City of Buffalo and the State of New York. With renovations and upgrades now complete, McCarthy Park will be the outdoor home of the Medaille Mavericks athletic teams, including men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball and softball. Funding for this project came from New York State through the offices of State Senators William Stachowski and Antoine Thompson, with additional funding provided through the City of Buffalo and the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency (BURA).
