by Kara Kane on April 17, 2009

Medaille College has partnered with the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) to offer two courses at its Amherst Campus that fulfill the 85-hour Section One, educational requirement for the CASAC.

The first CASAC course, Introduction to Additions, starts on June 20 and concludes July 25. Psychopharmacology begins on August 22 and ends on September 26. Each non-credit course combines eight hours of classroom time with online and independent study, providing a non-traditional format to fit the needs of many students and professionals in the community.

Medaille College currently offers a master of arts in mental health counseling degree at its Amherst Campus, with 120 students enrolled in this cohort-based program. As of July 2008, there were approximately 7,000 credentialed CASACs in New York State.
