Medaille College, in a public-private partnership with the City of Buffalo and the State of New York, is nearing completion of renovation work at McCarthy Park on Amherst Street in Buffalo. Once the work is completed, McCarthy Park will be the outdoor home for the Medaille Mavericks athletic teams. Medaille’s outdoor teams include men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball and softball.

“By forming this community partnership, we have been able to construct NCAA championship level facilities for our students, as well as for the Buffalo Public Schools and the nearby neighborhood,” said Dr. Richard T. Jurasek, president of Medaille College. “We are proud to invest our money into this public facility and to be partners with the City of Buffalo. We look forward to hosting athletic contests at McCarthy in the spring.”

The renovation work at McCarthy Park included the construction of a new soccer and lacrosse field, as well as significant upgrades to the baseball and softball fields. The entire project totaled $625,000, of which Medaille College invested $300,000. Funding was also provided by the State of New York through the offices of State Senators Bill Stachowski and Antoine Thompson. Additional Funding for the project was provided through the City of Buffalo and the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency (BURA).

“Taking part in and helping to fund this renovation is a great way for the City of Buffalo to enhance the development of our youth,” said Mayor Byron W. Brown. “By partnering with Medaille College, as well as the State of New York, we will transform McCarthy Park into the first public park in Buffalo with NCAA regulation athletic fields, which is sure to benefit students at the college, as well as students in the Buffalo Public School system. Renovations made at the park will also help enhance its appeal within the community, giving city residents of all ages the opportunity to enjoy the many facilities available to them at this park.”
