For the second time in three years, the Medaille College women’s basketball team has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Basketball Tournament.
The team held off a stubborn University of Scranton squad with a 56-54 score. With only 38 points scored in the first half of play, Medaille headed to the locker room with a 22-17 advantage. Senior guard Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored 12 of her team-high 14 points in the second half. Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) posted another double/double with 11 points and 16 boards. The win over Scranton takes the team to its best record ever at 26-2.
The Lady Mavs face the University of Rochester in round two of the tournament in Scranton, Penn. on Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Earlier this season, Medaille beat Rochester on their home floor, 67-51. That match’s winner heads to the Sweet 16.
