Women’s Basketball team to face Scranton in first round of NCAA Tournament
The NCAA announced the Division III Women’s Basketball Bracket (PDF) today, and the women’s basketball team will face the University of Scranton, winners of the Landmark Conference Championship. That game will take place on Friday, March 7 at Scranton, with a game time to be determined. The Lady Mavs join a field of 63 other teams vying for the NCAA Division III title.
Head coach Pete Lonergan offers, “It is an amazing accomplishment for the Lady Mavs to have earned three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. These young ladies have put Medaille College on the national map in intercollegiate sports, represented the college community with class and dignity, and accomplished feats that will be a challenge for all future teams to reach. We will not see the likes of these ladies or their successes for a long time - we owe them our appreciation and support as they begin competition in ‘March Madness’ later this week!”
The Lady Mavs advanced to the NCAA Tournament with their 69-55 win over Pitt-Greensburg in the AMCC Championship game on Saturday, March 1. This is the third consecutive trip to the tournament for Medaille as they have a 1-2 record in their three previous tournament games. Their lone win came against another Pennsylvania opponent, Washington & Jefferson College, in the 2006 tournament. The Lady Mavs are 25-2 on the year while the Scranton Royals stand at 21-5.
