Last Second Shot Lifts Mavs over Altoona

(Buffalo, NY) - Despite being down by as many as (12) points in the second half the Medaille Mavericks roared back enroute to a (54-52) last second thrilling victory over Penn State-Altoona. It would be sophomore, Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay), who would provide the heroics as he put back a missed layup by Bill Gersitz (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) with one second remaining on the clock. A desperation three point attempt by the Lions hit the front of the rim and the Mavs walked away victorious. It was a great day for Hack as he tied a game high with (21) points on (8 of 14) shooting from the floor, he also pulled down (6) boards. Also having a great day for Medaille was junior, guard, Jacob Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland) as he netted (13) points to go along with (6) boards and (4) steals. The win keeps the Mavs in the postseason hunt as they are now (13-10) overall and (8-8) in AMCC play. The Mavs will head to La Roche College on Wednesday (2/20) for a 7:30pm with the Redhawks. Lady Mavs Roll Past Penn State-Altoona

(Buffalo, NY) - The Lady Mavs received superior efforts from their star players ina (82-59) rout of Penn State-Altoona. Leading the charge for Medaille was Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) who had a monster all around game with (14) points, (8) rebounds, (9) assists and (6) steals. Teammates Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) and Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) both finished with game highs of (16) points. The Lady Mavs used stellar defense and a strong transition offense to outdo the Lions. Medaille outscored Altoona (18-2) on the fast break and (42-18) in the paint. The win moves Medaille one step closer to another AMCC regular season championship as they are now (21-2) overall and (15-1) in league play. The Lady Mavs will head to La Roche College on Wednesday (2/20) for their next game. (Dated 2.16.08)

Volleyball Upends D’Youville

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men’s volleyball team came up with a huge win on the road as they upended D’Youville College (3-1); (30-26, 27-30, 30-22, 30-23). They had lost to the Spartans earlier this season. The Mavs were led by Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) who had a match high (14) kills and teammate Mitchell Shepard (London, Ontario/John Paul II) had (11) kills. The win moves Medaille to (8-6) overall and they even their NECVA Western Division record at (2-2). The Mavs will host the Hilbert Hawks on Monday at 7:00pm. (Dated 2.15.08)

Mavs Drop Third Straight

(Erie, PA) - The ebb and flow season of the men’s basketball team continued as they dropped their third straight game falling at Penn State-Behrend (71-61). This comes on the heels of both a six game win streak and six game losing skid. The loss drops Medaille to (12-10) overall and (7-8) in AMCC play. The Mavs received strong performances from Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) who posted a double/double with (11) points and (11) boards while Kyle White (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) also dropped in (11) points on (4 of 5) shooting from the floor. The Mavs will try and get back into the win column as they host Penn State-Altoona on Saturday (2/16) at 3:00pm. (Dated 2.13.08)

Lady Mavs Get Back on Track

(Erie, PA) - After suffering their first AMCC defeat at Greensburg on Saturday, the Lady Mavs got back on track as they upended Penn State-Behrend (59-44) tonight. The win moves Medaille to (20-2) overall and marks the fourth consecutive season with at least (20) wins. It took a balanced effort by Medaille to beat the Lions as nine different Lady Mavs found the scoring column. They were led by senior, forward, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) who finished with a game high (12) points to go along with (6) boards and (2) blocks. Coming off the bench with strong play was freshman, Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who dropped in (9) points on (4 of 6) shooting from the floor. The Lady Mavs stay atop the AMCC standings at (14-1) as they will host Penn State-Altoona on Saturday (2/16) at 1:00pm. That will be a “Think Pink” game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Volleyball Falls at Mercyhurst

(Erie, PA) - In their second meeting this season the Lakers from Mercyhurst College avenged a five game loss to the Mavs as they won (3-0); (30-26, 30-24, 30-24). The loss leaves Medaille at (7-6) on the season. The Mavs were coming off a successful weekend as they placed third in the New Jersey City University Gothic Knight Invitational. In the loss at Mercyhurst the Mavs were led by Ryan Murdie (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) who had a team high (11) kills, while senior, setter, Drew Lewandowski (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) had (30) assists on the night. The Mavs will take on crosstown rival D’Youville College on Friday (2/15) in their next match at 7:00pm. (Dated 2.12.08)

Game Time Changes for Basketball Saturday

The basketball games that are scheduled for this Saturday (2/16) against Penn State-Altoona have new start times. The women’s game will tipoff at 1:00pm (previously a 2:00pm start) and the men’s game will start at 3:00pm (previously a 4:00pm start time). It will be a “Think Pink” game which will focus on educating folks on the dangers of Breast Cancer and what we can do to help in the quest for a cure. We encourage you to wear pink to the game and think about making a donation that will go towards a cure. (Dated 2.12.08)

Men’s Basketball Falls at Greensburg

(Greensburg, PA) - The Mavs headed to Greensburg down two starters and the host Bobcats made the Mavs pay as they outlasted Medaille (83-71). It would mark the second straight loss for Medaille after winning six straight. In the loss the Mavs were led by senior, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) who notched a game high (39) points on (11 of 23) shooting from the floor, including (6 of 14) from behind the arc. The loss drops Medaille to (12-9) overall and evens their conference mark at (7-7). (Dated 2.9.08)

Lady Mavs Win Streak Halted

(Greensburg, PA) - For the first time since November 17th the Lady Mavs found themselves on the losing end of things as they were upended by Pitt-Greensburg (77-72). The loss is not a shocking one as the Bobcats gave Medaille a scare in the Sullivan Center earlier this year when the Lady Mavs escaped with a (69-68) win. The Bobcats won today despite not having AMCC Preseason Player of the Year Tiffany Menhorn who was sidelined with an injury. The Lady Mavs got down big in the first half as Greensburg connected on (10 of 16) from behind the arc in the opening stanza. The Bobcats would head to the break up (45-25). The Lady Mavs would claw back in the second half but to no avail. In the loss Medaille was led by their senior trio of Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) who had (20) points and (13) rebounds, Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) who finished with (16) points and (8) boards, and Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) who tallied (13) points and pulled down (7) caroms. The loss drops Medaille to (19-2) overall and gives them their first conference blemish at (13-1). (Dated 2.9.08)

Volleyball Gets Back on Track

(Philadelphia, PA) - After dropping two straight matches the Medaille College men’s volleyball team was looking to rebound as they headed to Philadelphia Biblical University this afternoon. After dropping the first game of the match the Mavs rallied to win the next three as they bested Philadelphia Biblical (3-1); (23-30, 31-29, 30-27, 30-28). In the win the Mavs received strong performances from sophomore, Ryan Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) who had a team high (16) kills, most of those assisted by Drew Lewandowski (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) who finished the day with (47) helpers. On the defensive end the Mavs were led by freshman, libero, Dan Jackson (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) who had (15) digs to lead the Mavs. With the victory Medaille moves to (5-4) overall and they remain at (1-2) in NECVA Western Division play. The Mavs will head to New Jersey City University tomorrow (2/9) to take part in the Gothic Knight Invitational. (Dated 2.8.08)

Basketball Teams Split With Lake Erie

(Buffalo, NY) - In their previous six outings the men’s and women’s basketball teams had swept their AMCC opponents. That string would end Wednesday night as the women held up their end of the bargain by outlasting Lake Erie (71-62) before the men fell short against the Storm (73-63). In the evening’s opening game the Lake Erie women’s basketball team jumped on the Lady Mavs as they dictated play in the opening stanza, heading into halftime with a (35-30) lead. In the second half Medaille used its strong defensive play and dominant rebounding to take back control of the game. The Lady Mavs outrebounded Lake Erie (55-35) and used a strong transition game to put the Storm away, as they notched (22) points on the fast break. The Lady Mavs used balance scoring from their starters as four of the five reached double figures. Leading the way was senior, guard, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) who tallied a team high (15) points and dished out (7) assists. Strong performances were also given by Carissa Ferrucci (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata) who scored (10) points and pulled down (9) boards and Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) posted her sixth double/double of te season as she scored (12) points, pulled down (13) boards while blocking (3) shots. The #11 ranked Lady Mavs have won (19) straight and are currently (19-1) overall and (13-0) in AMCC play.

In the evening’s second game the Storm came out of the locker room quickly as they built an early seven point lead before the Mavs settled down and found some consistency. The Storm were able to keep Medaille at bay for most of the first half as the Mavs never got closer than five points and Lake Erie headed into the locker room with an eight point cushion. The second half would be much of the same as Lake Erie’s lead would fluctuate from (18) points to (6) points before they would end the game with a ten point win. In the loss Medaille was led by Keith Hack (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) who poured in a game high (19) points on (5 of 11) shooting from the floor and (3 of 6) from behind the arc. The loss drops Medaille to (12-8) overall and (7-6) in conference play. Both teams will head to Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (2/9) for their next contests. (Dated 2.7.08)

Volleyball Falls to #4 Nazareth

(Rochester, NY) - The Medaille College men’s volleyball team fell to the #4 ranked team in the nation (#1 in the NECVA) as Nazareth College won (3-0); (30-25, 30-18, 30-22). The loss is the second straight for Medaille as they fall to (.500) on the year at (4-4) overall and they drop to (1-2) in NECVA Western Division play. In the loss the Mavs were led by senior, outside hitter, Darek Przybyl (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) who had a team high (11) kills and (6) digs. While Drew Lewandowski (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) came up with (33) assists. The Mavs will head to Philadelphia Biblical University on Friday (2/8) for a 6:00pm match. (Dated 2.6.08)

Men’s Hoops Wins Sixth Straight

(Buffalo, NY) - For the first time in their history the Medaille College men’s basketball team beat Frostburg State. The Bobcats had won the previous seven meetings before the Mavs roared past them today (80-69). The win is the sixth straight for Medaille and it moves them into third place in the AMCC standings. They are currently (12-7) overall, eclipsing lat years win total of (11), and they are at (7-5) in AMCC play. The Mavs received career days from two players off the bench as sophomore, Kelly Condello (Fairport, NY/Fairport) poured in a game and career high (19) points on (8 of 11) shooting and senior, Kyle White (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) scored a career high (14) points on (5 of 6) shooting from the field. The Mavs won the game in the post as they outscored Frostburg State (46-20) in the painted area. In the loss the Bobcats were led by Jade Belt (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) who finished with (16) points and (5) boards. The loss drops the Bobcats to (5-14) overall and (4-8) in conference play. The Mavs will play host to the AMCC’s top team, Lake Erie College, on Wednesday (2/6) at 8:00pm.(Dated 2.2.08)

Lonergan Wins 100th Game at Medaille

(Buffalo, NY) - In his 127th game as head coach of the Lady Mavericks basketball team, head coach Pete Lonergan earned his 100th victory as Medaille pounded AMCC foe Frostburg State (56-38). Coach Lonergan now boasts a record of (100-27) for a winning percentage of (.787). The win is the 18th consecutive for the #12 ranked Lady Mavs and they improve to (18-1) overall and stay perfect in conference play at (12-0). It was a game that saw the defense of Medaille stymie the Bobcats, forcing them into (24) turnovers, which Medaille turned into (27) points. Leading the way to victory was senior, guard, Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) who had a team high (12) points and a game high (11) boards, seven on the offensive end, while dishing out (4) assists. In the loss Frostburg State was led by Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, MD/Oxon Hill) who tallied a game high (16) points as she was (8 of 11) from the floor. The loss drops Frostburg to (5-14) overall and (2-10) in AMCC play. The Lady Mavs will host second place Lake Erie College on Wednesday (2/6) at 6:00pm in the Sullivan Center. (Dated 2.2.08)
