Men’s Hoops Fall at Frostburg State

(Frostburg, MD) - The men’s basketball team was trying to keep their win streak going as they took on AMCC rival Frostburg State. The Mavs ran into a tough Bobcat squad as they fell to the host team (91-80). The loss drops Medaille to (6-2) overall and (1-2) in conference play. In the loss Medaille was led by James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) who had a game high (19) points. The Mavs also received a strong day off the bench from Joe Mogavero (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) who scored (10) points on (5 for 5) shooting from the floor. The Mavs displayed a great team offensive game as (23 of 32) field goals were assisted. The Mavs have a long layoff as they will next take the floor on 12/15 at Fredonia State for a 7:00pm tipoff.

Lady Mavs Win Fifth Straight

(Frostburg, MD) - The Lady Mavs traveled to Frostburg State to take on their AMCC foe Bobcats. In the first half of play the Lady Mavs found themselves trailing as they headed into the locker romm down (29-24). The second half would prove to be a different story as Medaille rolled enroute to a (60-49) victory. The win is the fifth straight for Medaille. Leading the charge for the Lady Mavs was senior, forward, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) who notched game highs with (19) points and (14) rebounds. Picking up the Lady Mavs on the defensive end of the floor was senior, center, Sara Bukas (Hamburg, NY/Holy Angels) who blocked (7) Frostburg State shots. The win moves Medaille to (5-1) overall and (3-0) in AMCC play.

Mavs Off To Best Start Ever

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men’s basketball team is off to its best start ever as the Mavs improved to (6-1) with an (86-75) win over crosstown rival D’Youville College. It was a game that saw a combined (51) turnovers and many ebbs and flows as the teams continued to steal away the momentum from each other. In the end it would be Medaille who would compose themselves and pull away from the game Spartans. In the win the Mavs had four players score in double figures, led by James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) who finished with a team high (22) points on (7 of 9) shooting. The Spartans were led in defeat by Charles Walker (Buffalo, NY/NCCC) who notched a game high (25) points. The Spartans fall to (1-4) on the year. The Mavericks will hit the road for their next game as they will return to AMCC action at Frostburg State on Saturday (12/8).

Men’s Basketball Wins OT Thriller

(Buffalo, NY) - Coming off a disappointing three point loss to Pitt-Bradford in their conference opener, the Medaille College men’s basketball team was looking to rebound as they hosted Mt. Aloysius College. The Mavs would start out a bit sloppy but would play strong down the stretch as they outlasted the Mounties (81-75) in overtime. In the contest, play was often dominated by the Mounties 6′8″ center, Richard McNutt (Ellesmere, UK/EPCH), who had an impressive night registering game highs with (32) points, (15) rebounds and (2) blocks. However, when the game was on the line Medaille turned to Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) who hit a couple of huge shots down the stretch enroute to a team high (22) points on (10 of 15) shooting. Also, the Mavs were able to come up with two key steals by Chris Moscato (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) and Ricky Reed (Fairport, NY/Fairport) that helped lead Medaille to victory. The Mavs have matched their best start ever as they are currently (5-1) overall and they even their AMCC record at (1-1). The Mavs will host D’Youville College on Monday night at 7:00pm in the Sullivan Center.

Lady Mavs Cruise Past Mt. Aloysius

(Buffalo, NY) - The Lady Mavs dominated Mt. Aloysius early and then cruised to a (77-65) conference win. They used a combination of speed and quickness to force the Mounties into costly turnovers. The Lady Mavs received strong play from junior, guard, Carissa Ferrucci (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata), who went (6 of 8) from the floor enroute to a team high (13) points. In the loss Mt. Aloysius was led by Brianna Baker (Windber, PA/Windber) who notched a game high (21) points. The win moves the Lady Mavs to (4-1) overall and (2-0) in AMCC play. Meanwhile the Mounties drop to (2-3) overall and (0-2) in conference. The Lady Mavs will take the floor on Saturday (12/8) as they head to Frostburg State for a 1:00pm tipoff.

Men’s Hoops Drops AMCC Opener

(Buffalo, NY) - It was a tale of two halves as the Mavericks controlled the first and Pitt-Bradford stormed back in the second. The Mavs dropped their conference opener to the Panthers (67-64) after holding an (11) point halftime lead. The Panthers would start the second half on a (13-3) run but Medaille was able to hold the lead until there was (5:41) to play. The game would be a back and forth affair from their. In the end it would be senior, guard, Jess Whelan (Bradford, PA/Bradford), who would seal the win for Bradford as he connected on his 7th three pointer of the night with (26) seconds to play, he finished the night with a game high (32) points. The Mavs were led in the loss by junior, forward, Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East), who registered a team high (15) points. The loss drops Medaille to (4-1) overall and (0-1) in AMCC play, while Pitt-Bradford improves to (4-1) and (1-0) in conference play.

Lady Mavs Overwhelm Pitt-Bradford

(Buffalo, NY) - The Lady Mavs used swarming defense and hard work on the boards to hammer Pitt-Bradford (84-44) in both teams AMCC openers. The Lady Mavs jumped out to an (18-2) lead creating (10) turnovers in the early stages of the game. It would be Medaille using a balanced attack as thirteen players registered at least one point. Leading the way was senior, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark), who had game highs in points and rebounds with (22) and (9) respectively. Senior, guards, Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) had (7) assists and (7) boards while Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton) finished up with (9) points, (8) assists, and (7) steals as the Lady Mavs improve to (3-1) overall and (1-0) in AMCC play.

Lady Mavs Win Second Straight

(Alfred, NY) - The Lady Mavs felt no ill effects of a six day layoff as they traveled to Alfred University and crushed the Saxons (80-52). Medaille was coming off a huge win over nationally ranked University of Rochester. This game saw (13) different Medaille players find the scoring column. The top two scorers for the Lady Mavs were seniors, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) who finished with (14) points and Amanda Walling (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) she ended up with (10). Senior, center, Sara Bukas (Hamburg, NY/Holy Angels) became the schools all time leader in blocked shots with her (1) rejection on the night, she currently has (110) for her career. The Lady Mavs will begin AMCC play on Wednesday (11/28) as they host Pitt-Bradford. The win tonight moves Medaille to (2-1) on the season.

Men’s Hoops Wins Allegheny Tournament

(Meadville, PA) - The Medaille College men’s basketball team continued its winning ways as they held on to beat Allegheny College (70-68) in the National City Holiday Tournament which was hosted by Allegheny. The Mavs were led to the tournament win by James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate) who finished with a game high (19) points on the day. His stellar play over the weekend earned him tournament MVP honors. Also being selected to the All-Tournament team was junior, forward, Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) as he finished with (12) points, for the tournament Bill was (13 of 17) from the floor with (26) points. The Mavs are off to their best start in eight years as they are currently (4-0) on the young season. The Mavs will begin AMCC play on Wednesday (11/28) as they host Pitt-Bradford in the Sullivan Center for an 8:00pm tipoff.

Men’s Basketball Stays Hot, Defeats Marietta

(Meadville, PA) - So far so good for the Medaille College men’s basketball team as they raised their record to (3-0) this evening with a (94-83) victory over Marietta College in the first round of the National City Holiday Classic hosted by Allegheny College. The Mavs are off to their best start since they became a full fledged member of the NCAA. The victory over Marietta avenges a loss from last season. The Mavs led (41-31) at the break but Marietta would storm back to take a five point lead early in the second half. It would take two big three pointers from junior, transfer, Bryan Legge (Buffalo, NY/Cardinal O’Hara) that would spark a Maverick run. In the win they were led by senior, guard, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate), who registered team highs in points and rebounds with (18) and (7) respectively. Having a great shooting night for the Mavs was junior, forward, Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) who knocked down (7 of 9) field goals as he finished the night with (14) points. The Mavs had five players reach double digits in scoring including sophomore Mike Berkun (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North), who went (12 for 12) from the charity stripe for all of his points. The Mavs will play the host team, Allegheny College who were winners over Penn State-DuBois, at 3:00pm tomorrow (11/25) for the tournament title.

Lady Mavs Dominate Nationally Ranked Foe

(Rochester, NY) - Coming off a difficult loss to William Smith in their opener, the Medaille women’s basketball team headed to the University of Rochester to take on the #15 (WBCA Preseason Poll) Yellowjackets and the night would be a banner one for Medaille as they overwhelmed the hosts (67-51). The Yellowjackets were coming off a (20) point win over the nations fifth ranked team (Bowdoin College) but the Lady Mavs had all of the answers. The only lead that Rochester would hold was a (2-0) advantage six seconds into play, after that Medaille dominated play. The visitors raced out to a (31-19) halftime lead and the second half proved to be similar to the first. The Lady Mavs were once again led by senior, forward, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark), as she was (9 of 10) from the floor, finishing up with (20) points and (7) boards. Also putting up strong numbers was senior, center, Sara Bukas (Hamburg, NY/Holy Angels), who finished the night with (16) points, (6) rebounds, and (2) blocked shots. Those two blocked shots tie Sara for the all time career mark with (109). Running the point for Medaille was senior, guard, Marisa Clark (Hilton, NY/Hilton), who dished out (11) assists, she surpassed the (500) career assist mark as she currently has (505). The Lady Mavs had faced the Yellowjackets three previous times losing all three contests (including the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament in 2006). The win moves Medaille to (1-1) as they will head to Alfred University on Monday (11/25) for a 7:00pm showdown.

Men’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten

(Cazenovia, NY) - The Mavs traveled to Cazenovia College for their second game of the season, as they handed Keuka College an (80-79) loss in their opener. It would be a strong night for Medaille as they used a dominating second half to crush the host Wildcats (86-68), they outscored the hosts (44-28) in the second half. The Mavs only held a two point advantage at the games midway point as Cazenovia led for the first ten minutes of play. The Mavs were led by junior, forward, Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East), who scored a team high (16) points to go along with (7) rebounds. Also putting up good numbers for Medaille was senior, guard, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate), who finished with (13) points, (8) rebounds and (2) blocks. The win keeps the Mavs perfect on the season at (2-0) as they will head to Allegheny College to take part in the National City Tournament, the Mavs will face Marietta College (OH) on Saturday (11/24) at 6:00pm. This is the first time since the 1999-2000 season that the Mavs open up a season with consecutive wins.

Men’s Hoops Opens Season With a Thriller

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men’s basketball team opened the 2007-08 campaign with a thrilling one point victory over Keuka College. The Mavs won the game (80-79) as junior, Bill Gersitz (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) hit the game winner with (5.6) seconds to play. The Storm got off a shot in the final second but it came up short. The win didn’t seem possible in the first half as Keuka put on an incredible three point shooting display. The visitors buried (11) three’s in the first twenty minutes, with freshman Raquan Banks (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) connecting on (6 of 8) in the opening stanza, he finished with a game high (27) points. The Mavs seemed to have the fresher legs in the second half and they took advantage of some turnovers down the stretch to eliminate the Storm lead. The Mavs trailed by as many as (16) points in the game. The win was a team affair as all eleven players that saw action found themselves in the scoring column. The Mavs were led by senior, James McNeil (Erie, PA/North West Collegiate), who tallied team highs with (22) points and (7) boards while Gersitz notched (15) points for the Mavs as well. The Mavs are now (1-0) as they will head to Cazenovia College on Tuesday (11/20) for a 6:00pm tipoff against the Wildcats.

Lady Mavs Fall in Opener

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College women’s basketball season did not start off as hoped as visiting William Smith College hung on for a (74-68) win over Medaille. The Lady Mavs jumped on the Herons early as senior, Amanda Baker (Lyons, NY/Newark) scored seven of their first eleven points, she finished the game with game highs of (21) points and (16) rebounds. After trailing for most of the first half William Smith would take their first lead with (4:08) remaining in the opening half. The teams would trade baskets and then the Herons would take a lead they would not relinquish. The Lady Mavs found themselves down by as many as (11) points in the second half and their late rally would fall short as William Smith was clutch down the stretch from the charity stripe. In the win William Smith would be led by senior, guard, Paula Foote (Sidney, NY/Sidney) who finished with a team high (14) points. The Lady Mavs look for redemption on Tuesday (11/20) as they will head to the University of Rochester to take on the Yellowjackets at 7:00pm. The loss to William Smith leaves Medaille at (0-1).

Men’s Soccer Ends Season in ECAC Semifinal

(Schenectady, NY) - Another great season has ended for the men’s soccer team as they fell to #2 seeded Union College (1-0) in the ECAC Semifinals. The match was a stalemate for the majority of play, however, Union would strike with less than four minutes to play to advance to the ECAC Upstate Championship game where they will face crosstown rival R.P.I.. This tournament is the third postseason appearance in a row for the Mavs as they reached the NCAA Tournament in 2005 and 2006 as well. The Mavs were playing without the nations second leading assist man and one of their captains as they took on Union. The Mavs finished the 2007 season with an outstanding record of (17-3-2) and they will seek a fourth straight AMCC regular season title in 2008.

Men’s Soccer Advances to ECAC Semifinals

(Buffalo, NY) - The men’s soccer team made the most of their first ECAC appearance as they avenged a 2006 second round NCAA Tournament loss with a (1-0) win over Nazareth College. The first half was a back and forth affair with each team struggling to put shots on frame as the first (45) minutes finished up at (0-0). The Mavs would totally dominate the second half as they outshot Nazareth (20-3) during that time span and (32-10) for the game. Despite the large shooting discrepancy it would take a goal at the (81:00) mark to seal the win for the Mavs. The goal was tallied by sophomore, Josh Meier (South Wales, NY/Holland), as he found the back of the net off a perfect header assist by Jacob Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland) that came off a flip throw in from freshman Brett Bridges (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford). Posting the shutout was senior, keeper, J.J. Bilinski (Panama, NY/Panama) who made (4) saves. The Mavs currently stand at (17-2-2) on the year as they will play at Union College in the ECAC semifinals on Saturday (11/10) at 1:30pm.

Lady Mavs Lose Despite Valiant Effort

(Brockport, NY) - Despite an eleven day layoff and the loss of their top scorer the women’s soccer team faced the nations 22nd ranked team in Brockport State and gave them all they could handle in the first round of the ECAC Tournament. The Lady Mavs fell to Brockport (2-0) in a game that saw the teams even at (0-0) at the half. Brockport would strike early in the second half to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Lady Mavs took some chances offensively to try and tie the game but Brockport would ice the game at the (77:34) mark. The Lady Mavs received strong play in net as junior, goalkeeper, Mattea Haessner (Moravia, NY/Moravia), stopped (11) of the (13) shots she faced. The Lady Mavs finish the 2007 season with the most wins in their history (14) as they end up at (14-6-1).

Soccer Teams to Participate in ECAC Tourney

(Buffalo, NY) - The men’s soccer team will get a chance to avenge their epic shootout loss to Nazareth in last years NCAA Tournament Second Round as they will host the Golden Flyers on Wednesday (11/7) at All High Stadium at 6:00pm in the first round of the ECAC Tournament. The Lady Mavs will play in their second ever ECAC Tournament as well, as they will travel to Brockport State to take on the top seed. That game will also take place on Wednesday with a 2:00pm start time.

Mavs Drop Heartbreaker in AMCC Final

(Buffalo, NY) - For the first time in three seasons the Medaille College men’s soccer team dropped a game to an AMCC opponent. Unfortunately for the Mavs it was in the AMCC Championship game, a (2-1) overtime loss to Penn State-Behrend at All High Stadium. The game was a back and forth affair as both teams took turns dictating play. The first half would end with the teams knotted at (0-0). The second half of play was spirited and the Mavs would strike first as Kendell McFayden (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) found the back of the net at the (67:27) mark off an assist from goalkeeper J.J. Bilinski (Panama, NY/Panama) who played him a great ball on a punt. The Mavs would hang on to the lead until the late stages of regulation as Behrend would find new life as they connected on a header off a corner kick with (20) seconds remaining in regulation. The last twenty seconds would tick away and the teams would head into overtime with the AMCC Championship on the line. It would be Penn State-Behrend who would wrestle the title away from Medaille just (3:31) into overtime as Adam Cline (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) would put a long distance chip shot into the top right corner of the goal for the game winner, it would be his second goal of the game. The loss drops Medaille to (16-2-2) on the season, as they await their fate. The NCAA selection comittee will convene on Sunday as the Mavs seek an at-large berth. The Mavs also have a great chance at being selected to the ECAC tournament as well, both tournaments begin on Wednesday (11/7).

Mavs Advance to AMCC Final

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College men’s soccer team is headed to its third straight AMCC final as they overwhelmed #5 seeded Frostburg State (3-0) in the conference semifinal game. The Mavs dictated play throughout the contest and their hard work finally paid off as they found the back of the net at the (31:10) mark as freshman, Eric Schnirel (West Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) scored off a pretty assist from Kendell McFayden (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North). The day would belong to McFayden as he would tally the Mavs next two goals, the first at the (51:44) mark and then he iced the game with less than five minutes to play. The Mavs received strong play from senior, goalkeeper. J.J. Bilinski (Panama, NY/Panama), as he stopped all four shots that the Bobcats put on frame. The Mavs will take their (16-1-2) record into the AMCC final as they will play Penn State-Behrend who hung on to beat Penn State-Altoona (1-0) in the conference’s other semifinal. The championship game will be played on Saturday (11/3) at 6:00pm at All High Stadium.

Lady Mavs Fall to Hilbert

(Hamburg, NY) - The Lady Mavs volleyball team seemed slated to win their second match in the last three tries as they took the first two games against Hilbert. However, the Hawks had different plans as they won the next three games to beat Medaille (3-2); (20-30, 18-30, 30-24, 30-21, 15-12). In the loss Medaille was led by freshman, Sonia Sloan (Hilton, NY/Hilton), who had a team high (12) kills. The loss drops Medaille to (5-19) overall and (0-8) in AMCC play.

Soccer Sweeps Lake Erie in Regular Season Finales

(Painesville, OH) - The women’s soccer team secured a home game in the first round of the AMCC tournament with a convincing (3-1) win at Lake Erie. The Lady Mavs received strong play from Danielle Radlich (Clarence, NY/Clarence) as she scored two goals on the day. Assisting on two goals was freshman, Katie Bush (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown), including the helper on the game winning goal which was scored by Shannon Radlich (Clarence, NY/Clarence). Danielle Radlich would notch her second goal late in the game to ice it for Medaille. Lake Erie’s lone goal was scored on a penalty kick in the games (58th) minute. The Lady Mavs received strong play from junior goalkeeper, Mattea Haessner (Moravia, NY/Moravia), who stopped (6) shots in the game. The Lady Mavs continue their most successful season ever as they improve to (14-4-1) overall and finish AMCC play at (6-3-0). In the second game of the doubleheader the Mavs would face a Lake Erie team that was playing to fortify their position in the AMCC postseason, the Mavs had already clinched the regular season title. Despite that fact the Mavs dominated play enroute to a (3-0) win over the host Storm. The Mavs opened the scoring at the (19:55) mark as junior, Jared Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland) found the back of the net off a corner kick ball played by Kendell McFayden (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North), McFayden would tally the games next goal in the (74th) minute on assist by freshman, Brett Bridges (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford), Bridges would round out the scoring six minutes later off an assist from Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). With that assist Boughton moves into a tie for second place on the Mavs all time assist list with (40). The Mavs will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs and then will host a semifinal match on Wednesday (10/31) against an opponent that is yet to be determined. The Mavs improve to (15-1-2) overall and (8-0-1) in AMCC play.

Volleyball Rallies Past D’Youville

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College women’s volleyball lost games one and two, then won the next three to defeat D’Youville College (3-2); (28-30, 28-30, 30-26, 30-25, 17-15). It would be senior, Dana Metz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) who would lead Medaille with (20) kills and Amy Frazita (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) snared a match high (46) digs for the Lady Mavs who move to (5-18) on the season. The win snaps a ten match losing streak for Medaille. For D’Youville Christine Halter (Holley, NY/Kendall) had a match high (22) kills, followed by Holly Beats (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) who finished with (15) kills for D’Youville (13-12).

Soccer Sweeps Pitt-Bradford

(Bradford, PA) - The Medaille College women’s soccer team set a new mark for wins in a season as they held on to beat AMCC foe Pitt-Bradford (2-1). The win gives Medaille (12) on the season eclipsing their previous best of (11) wins set in 2005. The Lady Mavs would trail (1-0) at the half but a penalty kick by senior, Tiffany Azzarito (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) at the (61:12) mark of the game would even the score. The Lady Mavs would break the deadlock at (73:17) as Koryn Walker (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) would net the game winner. The Lady Mavs are now (12-4-1) overall and (4-3-0) in AMCC play. They will travel to Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (10/20) for a 1:00pm AMCC contest. In the men’s game the Mavs would strike early as Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) would notch the first of his (2) goals at the (8:12) mark, he would also assist on the game winner in the second half of play, in what would end up as a (4-2) Medaille win. The Mavs would add another first half goal at (24:56) as Josh Meier (South Wales, NY/Holland) connected on a pass from Kendell McFayden(Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) who also assisted on the games opening goal. The Mavs would take a (2-0) lead into halftime. They would again open up the scoring as Jason Butterbrodt (Conesus, NY/Livonia) would score the game winner at the (50:33) mark. The Mavs would then open up a (4) goal cushion as Boughton scored his second goal just a few minutes later. The Panthers would score a couple of goals late but it would not be enough as Medaille moves to (13-1-2) overall and stays atop the conference standings at (6-0-1). The Mavs will travel to Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday (10/20) as they will have a 3:00pm start time.

Soccer Teams Crush Mt. Aloysius

(Cresson, PA) - The soccer teams traveled to Mt. Aloysius on Saturday and both teams would make quick work of the Mounties. In the opener, the Lady Mavs steamrolled the hosts (8-0) as they were led by freshman, Shannon Radlich (Clarence, NY/Clarence), who notched her first ever hat trick. The Lady Mavs held Mt. Aloysius without a shot for the entire game as they dominated play, the shot totals would read (24-0) in favor of Medaille. The win gives the Lady Mavs their tenth win of the year as they currently stand at (10-3-1) overall and (3-2-0) in AMCC play. The Lady Mavs record for wins in a season is (11). In the second game of the doubleheader the men’s team overwhelmed Mt. Aloysius (11-0), behind a very balanced attack. The Mavs would only surrender one shot on the day and it was not on goal as theyoutshot the Mounties (24-1). The Mavs received multiple goals from Kendell McFayden (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North), Mike Rhodes (Lockport, NY/Lockport), and John Siefert (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) each of whom tallied two markers. In total their were (8) Mavericks who would find the back of the net. The win moves Medaille to (10-1-2) overall and (4-0-1) in conference play. Both teams will host Wells College on Wednesday (10/10) at All High Stadium.

Soccer Sweeps Hilbert on a Milestone Evening

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College soccer teams played host to Hilbert College at All High Stadium on Wednesday evening. The opening game would pit the Lady Mavs against the Hawks. The teams would find themselves scoreless at intermission before the fireworks began in what would end up as a (3-2) overtime victory for Medaille. The Lady Mavs would strike first as freshman, Chelsea Buzynski (Newfane, NY/Newfane), would break the scoreless tie (12:04) into the second half of play. Then Medaille would tally another marker just (1:40) later as sophomore, Danielle Radlich (Clarence, NY/Clarence), would find the back of the net. That goal by Radlich would give her (100) points for her career, she is the first Medaille women’s soccer player to reach that milestone. The game would turn on a questionable call that would award the Hawks a penalty kick at the (72:45) mark, that shot would be buried by Hilbert junior, Tricia Knight (Sardinia, NY/Pioneer) to pull the Hawks within one. It would be Knight who would tie the game with a beautiful shot from fifteen yards out off a throw in with (3:09) remaining in regulation. The teams would finish the first (90:00) minutes tied at (2-2). The overtime period would be controlled early on by Hilbert until the momentum swung the Lady Mavs way as play moved into their offensive end. With three minutes remaining in the first overtime Radlich would notch her second goal of the game on a header that beat the Hilbert keeper. The win moves Medaille to (9-3-1) overall and (2-2-0) in AMCC play. In the nightcap the Mavs would make quick work of Hilbert as they cruised to a (7-0) win. The scoring would begin early as Kendell McFayden (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) would put away a gorgeous through ball from Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) at the (2:49) mark, that would be the first of Boughton’s (4) assists on the evening. The Hawks were able to keep Medaille off the board for the next (30) minutes of play, but then the onslaught would begin as the Mavs would tally their next goal at the (32:46) mark as Jason Butterbrodt (Conesus, NY/Livonia) would connect on a touch pass by Boughton. The next goal came (46) seconds later off the foot of Josh Meier (South Wales, NY/Holland), he would also tally the next two goals for the Mavs as he finished with the hat trick. It would be Andrew Ventura (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Mike Rhodes (Lockport, NY/Lockport) who would round out the scoring for Medaille. The shutout was shared by J.J. Bilinski (Panama, NY/Panama) who stopped the (1) shot he faced and freshman, Milad Zareian (Richmond Hill, Ontario/Brebeuf) who made (2) saves on the night. The Mavs move to (9-1-2) overall and (3-0-1) in AMCC action. Both teams will head to Mt. Aloysius College on Saturday (10/6) to take on the Mounties in conference play.

Volleyball Falls to Pitt-Bradford in AMCC Action

(Buffalo, NY) - The Medaille College women’s volleyball teams struggles continued Tuesday as they dropped their match with Pitt-Bradford (3-0); (13-30, 24-30, 22-30). It was the sixth straight loss for Medaille as they are (4-13) overall and (0-3) in AMCC play. The Lady Mavs received strong defensive play from senior, Amy Frazita (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), as she had a team high (21) digs. Frazita becomes only the second player in Medaille history to eclipse the (1,000) dig mark for her career, she currently has (1,011). The Lady Mavs will head to St. John Fisher College for a 7:00pm match on Thursday (10/4).

Golf Finishes Sixth at ECAC Championships

(Oswego, NY) - The ECAC Championships were held at the Oswego Country Club in Oswego, NY on Friday and Saturday and the Mavs fared quite well as they were in a tie for 7th place after day one as Scott Hack (Angola, NY/Angola), led the team with an (81). Day two would prove to be even more promising as they leap frogged two teams to finish the tournament in sole possesion of sixth place with a team score of (661). On day two it would again be Hack leading the way as he shot a (78) matching that score was freshman, John Haberman (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West), who played well on the weekend. The Mavs will take part in the AMCC Championships next Friday and Saturday (10/5 & 10/6) which is being hosted by Pitt-Greensburg.

George Finishes 2nd Overall at Hilbert Invitational

(Hamburg, NY) - The women’s cross country team received a boost from freshman, Bridget George (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), as she finished in second place at the Hilbert College Invitational. George crossed the finished line in a time of (27:57) for the 6k course. The Lady Mavs finished the meet in 3rd place with a team score of (61), the winning team was D’Youville College at (29) points followed by Pitt-Bradford (42), while Hilbert finished in fourth place (88). The Lady Mavs will compete next Saturday (10/6) as they travel to Nazareth College for an 11:00am meet.

Women’s Bowling Fares Well in Inaugural Meet

(Pittsburgh, PA) - The Lady Mavs bowling team took to the alleys for the first time in open competition and they did so against the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Louisville, Michigan State, and others. The Lady Mavs finished in sixth place out of ten teams with a score of (6,809), Ohio State won the tournament with a team score of (7,562). Leading the way for Medaille was freshman, Alyssa Neglia (Lockport, NY/Lockport), who finished in 14th place out of (67) bowlers. Her high game was (225) and she bowled for an average of (184.80). The Lady Mavs will take to the lanes again on Saturday (11/3) at the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cortland State.

Men’s Soccer Settles for Draw with Frostburg

(Buffalo, NY) - The Mavs were looking for a perfect AMCC start as they hosted Frostburg State, an early penalty kick goal from sophomore, Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), would give Medaille the lead. The Mavs would maintain that lead until the final five minutes of play before the Bobcats would even the score. In the overtime periods Medaille would have their chances as they failed to connect on a ball that just went wide of the goal and a penalty kick that was saved by the Bobcat keeper in the second overtime. The tie moves Medaille to (8-1-2) overall and (2-0-1) in AMCC play. The Mavs will host Hilbert College on Wednesday (10/3) at 8:00pm.
