Pelton Awarded Isherwood Foundation Grant

Dr. Ted PeltonDr. Ted Pelton, associate professor of humanities, has been awarded a grant from the Isherwood Foundation to support his fiction writing.

Pelton explains, “I’m in the midst of a book I’m calling Woodchuck Stories, which all feature a character I’ve made up, named Woodchuck, who is based on native American trickster tales but also incorporates aspects of more contemporary American popular culture.”

Pelton plans to apply the funding toward conferences during the spring semester.

The Isherwood Foundation offers grants of $4,000 to writers who have published at least one book of fiction. Pelton, who founded Starcherone Books, a non-profit fiction publishing house in 2000, is the author of three novels: Endorsed by Jack Chapeau, a short story collection now in an expanded second edition; Bhang, a novella; and, Malcolm and Jack (and other Famous American Criminals).

The highly competitive Isherwood grants are awarded annually. Members of the Isherwood Foundation’s Advisory Board include artists, editors, actors and actresses, directors, photographers, academics, publishers, poets, performers, college presidents, journalists, novelists and writers from around the world.
