Medaille Receives New York State Education Department Funding for Library

Huber HallMedaille College will receive nearly $8,000 in funding from the New York State Education Department’s Coordinated Collection Development (CCD) Program to support the academic library.

Medaille, along with 15 other regional academic institutions, received a total of $163,402, which is part of a $2 million appropriation given throughout New York State. Funding for this program has not been increased since 1984, and the New York Library Association (NYLA) has proposed a 100% increase in funding as part of the 2008 state budget. All public and private colleges and universities in New York are eligible for this funding under Title 8 of New York Education Law, and funding levels are determined by enrollment figures at the start of the academic year.

Academic libraries that receive CCD support share the materials purchased with funds with libraries and New York residents as part of the interlibrary loan system.

Andrew YeagerAndrew Yeager, M.L.S., assistant professor and interim library director says, “We have been applying this yearly funding to Mergent, an online database.” Mergent provides financial information on national and international businesses, and is frequently used by undergraduate students in the business and sport management programs, and students in the Accelerated Learning Program.

The Medaille College Library, located in Huber Hall on the Main Campus, has a full-time staff of five professional librarians supporting over 2,700 students across three campuses.
