DeKay, Mulvey to Lead Student Success and First-Year Learning Community Programs
Amy DeKay, associate dean of students, and Mary Ellen Mulvey, director of the Academic Skills Center, will serve as co-coordinators of the Student Success and First-Year Learning Community Programs for the 2007-08 academic year.
Along with James Brace, associate professor and chair of the Social Sciences Department, Dr. Norm Muir, undergraduate academic dean, and Anne Pfohl, visiting instructor, Social Sciences, DeKay and Mulvey will work closely with faculty in the learning communities, as well the Advisement Center and Student Affairs, to develop a positive learning environment for our incoming students.
The Learning Community Program began in 2006 as a pilot program designed to support entering students by creating meaningful connections between courses, students, and faculty. This year, students in the Student Success Program and the Leadership Program are cohorted in themed learning communities of two to three courses, in which faculty work together to create an integrative living-learning experience.
