Men’s Soccer Featured in Buffalo News, Wins Defiance Classic
The Buffalo News (9/2/2007) profiled the Mavericks men’s soccer team, citing the “competitive cauldron” of its practices and the players’ hopes for achieving a third-straight NCAA conference appearance.
Over the weekend, the team was looking to equal the accomplishment of the Lady Mavs and take the Defiance Classic title. They stormed out to an early 2-0 lead against Bethany College, but Bethany fought back to level the score at 2-2 heading into halftime. The game ultimately turned in the second half as the Mavs beat Bethany (4-2). The Mavs were paced by freshman, Eric Schnirel (West Amherst, NY - Sweet Home) and junior, Jared Reisdorf (Strykersville, NY/Holland), who each tallied a first half goal. The second stanza proved to be successful for the Mavericks as freshman Richmond Baah (North York, Ontario/Westvie WCSS) netted the game winner at the 52:44 mark. Sophomore Gary Boughton (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) put the game away with another goal in the game’s 83rd minute. The Mavs begin the season at 2-0-0 as they will host Fredonia State on Tuesday (9/4) at 4:00 p.m. at All High Stadium.
